Biography
Laura Fleur is a British mezzo‑soprano, who recently completed her young artist residency at the Opera Studio del Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. She was also a young artist at the National Opera Studio in London during the 2022–23 season, and was a Garsington 2022 Emerging Artist.
This year Laura made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, in Christof Loy’s esteemed production of Rusalka as 2nd Nymph. Operatic roles at the Palau de les Arts included La Ciesca/Gianni Schicchi, Zweite Dame/ Die Zauberflöte, Javotte/Manon, 2nd Nymph/Rusalka, Soeur Mathilde/Dialogues des Carmélites and Masha/Pique Dame. Further operatic experience includes Ramiro/La Finta Giardiniera (The Mozartists), Speranza/Orfeo (Garsington Opera), Ernestina/L’Occasione fa il Ladro (British Youth Opera), Ruggiero/Alcina (Ensemble Orquesta/Grimeborn Festival), Veronique/Le Docteur Miracle and Armelinde/Cendrillon (Guildhall Opera Course).
She has also performed a wide range of contemporary operas, including Donna and Lady Fortune/Miss Fortune (Weir), Pompea/The Little Green Swallow (Dove), and premieres of Venus/Paradise Garden (Hazrati/Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh), Elise/The Apothecary (Crankshaw/Best) and Telemarketer/I’m Cleaning, I’m Cleaning (Abél MGE/Lavender), all for the Guildhall Opera Course. During her time at NOS, Laura also performed scenes from contemporary operas during the residency at Opera North, including Laura/Violet (Coult), Christina/Glare (Eichberg), and Alto/Cautionary Tales (Wallen).
In concert Laura made her Barbican Hall debut performing Ravel’s Shéhérazade with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Roberto González-Monjas. She also has performed in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the Guildhall Chamber Orchestra and Bach Cantatas with the London Handel Orchestra. Laura was also a Leeds Lieder Young Artist.
Laura graduated from the Royal College of Music (First Class Honours and a Master’s with Distinction) and the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. During her studies she has been kindly supported by scholarships and awards such as the Wax Chandlers’ Scholarship, Margery & Stephen Wright Eisinger Award, Help Musicians Sybil Tutton Award, Countess of Munster Award, and a Pimlott Foundation grant.
